how to set up AG Joomla 2.5

This might sound basic, but can someone please give me the exact process for setting up AG 4.5? This is what I have done but it hasn't worked: (I'm new to Joomla so sorry if this is pretty basic!). I want to show images of circus posters through a thumbnail that will come up in a bigger image when selected.
1. Set up new category called Publicity.
2. Set up a new article called Publicity and linked to the category Publicity.
3. Set up a new menu item called Publicity and in 'Menu Item Type' selected 'Image Manager' (I also changed this to 'Gallery Layout' later but that didn't work either).
4. Set up a new folder in Media Manager called Publicity and uploaded 4 jpg images. [Question - does this folder HAVE to be in 'sample data' as mine isn't)
5. Went into Components, AG Control Panel, selected the images root folder as Publicity, gallery template classic, and popup engine as slimbox. Hit Apply.
6. Went into Image Manager in AG and it shows a list of the images. Hit Apply.
7. Went back to article and typed in {AG}Publicity{/AG}.

But when I went into my site, there was a message in the Publicity menu in red saying 'You are not authorised to view this resource'.
So what am I doing wrong? I've looked a scores of youtube videos, but none is for AG4.5, and no user manuals explain how to get the article linked to the menu item to show AG.

I think I am missing a simple but vital step! Thank you to anyone who can guide me!

OK, got no reply, but I fiddled about for hours and realised the Menu Item overrides ANY settings in AdmirorGallery component. Now that is either something new with version 4.5 or some strange setting on my site.

Yes, every menu item has it's own settings, so that you can have different gallery's for every item

Admiror Gallery->Control panel defines default settings, because you don't have to use menu item to display gallery, you can also just add {AG}myAlbum{/AG} in your article and images from that folder will be shown in a nice way

I have to admit, this is confusing, and we have a few ideas how to simplify this and make every single gallery configurable so that users could have more options, but this is a project done in our free time and that's what we lack the most these days, unfortunately
