Ok , thank you very much for the update.
when I installed it on my local host it still had the directory problem
but than I installed on the web server and it works perfectly.
which leads me to believe that the problem only resides in windows. (the web server is unix - that explains a lot...).
so let me add myself to the donation request,
this is a very good extension. i have downloaded and installed dozens of them - this one is by far the best.

It's not recommended to use Russian folder names. Generally, there is a convention in folders and file names on the web: only English alphabet, no empty spaces, avoid special characters (&, %, etc.). Everything else sometimes works, but it can produce errors, not only with AG, but generally.

Some of next releases will have multilanguage Album's names. Till than, I recommend to avoid Russian for folder names.

before releasing my new website (currently under joomla 1.5.22 and AG 2.1.155) I would like to upgrade to joomla 1.6 and AG v3. Is AG v3 running with joomla 1.6?

No, we don't have yet version for Joomla 1.6 . Port for 1.6 is planned after Stable Release of 3.x , but we cannot say when it will be done, probably at the middle of this year.

I'm not sure if the mobile phone problem is solved - need to clear cache on phone and try again.
All the album thumbnails have now disappeared and all I get is the folder name as a link surrounded by a box. There doesn't appear to be any way to select which image to use as a thumbnail for the folder?

I will look into this issue with albums thumbs tomorrow. We changed the way the album thumbs are generated, and this did help some, but also created problems for others

Thumbnails on folders are back - and better than before as it now "zooms in" on vertical image. (Though I would still like to be able to Choose my folder thumbnail via a checkbox on an image (like Flickr and Facebook do).

The error on my mobile phone has now gone, meaning perfect browsing on my phone!

The only thing that remains is not a bug as much as an oddity - the Image manager thing I mentioned a while back about gaps in the thumbnail lineup. The following image shows this in .169.
