Next idea:
Option to define "default/fullsize" image dimensions, and HD-large image.
"Fullsize" (eg. 800px x 600px) would be used as a default image in popups. HD-large could be "bigger image" option like in http://www.no-margin-for-errors.com/projects/prettyphoto-jquery-lightbox-clone/, witch shows [x] button to display image in fullsize when it's bigger than browser window.

Forget on HD images :-) ... only if some new GD Library becames a standard one.

AG is based on the most common graphic library on PHP servers - GD Library. This library is build to works with standard web formats. GD Library is used for thumbnails creation.

Weak spots of GD Library are large images. Standard image from digital camera easy took over 128MB of server resources and than server usually blocks GD Library execution. The real HD image would be mission impossible for GD.

But this prettyphoto is quite elegant. It would be nice as Popup Template :-)

We used prettyphoto in v2 of the gallery, and we can rework it a little to work on V3.
The script in fact loads the whole image and then scales it to fix the users browsers viewpoint. This is a good thing when opening images on mobile devices.

But if you have very large images, thumbnail creation is the problem. Maybe with ImageMagic this can be solved, but I'm not so familiar with it.
